culinary arts degrees and programs

Culinary & Hospitality Programs

Most culinary degrees and hospitality programs are offered through schools that specialize in preparation for careers in these fields. A baking certificate from a cooking school will include the various kinds of desserts, from a soufflé to pies and cakes to chocolates and candies. Culinary programs help students prepare for a career as a chef. They learn food safety, sauce preparation, meat cuts, wine pairings and menu planning. Hospitality programs train students for careers as hoteliers, with training in personnel management, purchasing, inventory and business strategies.

Culinary & Hospitality Careers

Most students work as a chef in training in the restaurant linked to their culinary school. Graduates of a culinary school or hospitality degree program will be prepared to work in restaurants, hotels, and on cruise ships. A hospitality degree can also bring a job in a spa or resort, managing staff to provide the highest level of customer service to travelers. Some graduates of hospitality colleges help “green” hotels find ways to manage their property in an ecologically sound manner, and some help with planning, layout and design.

Culinary & Hospitality Students

Students who enter culinary programs should have a natural affinity for food and its preparation, as well as a passion to create and combine new flavors. Most culinary students enjoy foods from all cultures, as it helps inspire them and introduce them to new ingredients and tastes. Hospitality students should enjoy traveling and seeing new places and cultures. These experiences will help them acclimatize visitors to any place in the world.
