nursing degrees and programs
Nursing Programs
Nurses help to promote the quality of life at every stage. Nursing programs can range from an LPN (licensed practical nurse),who often works under an RN (registered nurse). Many times RNs have graduated from a BSN program and hold a bachelor of science in nursing degree. Earning an RN or BSN degree may take four years at a college or university offering medical and nursing classes. Nurses are also expected to learn a specialty on the job, from pediatrics to mental health to burn units to cardiology or oncology.
Nursing Careers
Nurses should be prepared to deal with a number of situations. They will need to prepare patients for operations, treatments and doctor’s examinations. Many times nurses monitor their patients more intimately than the doctor themselves; they are aware of small changes in a patient’s condition and healing process and can advise doctors on the next step. They can draw blood and fluid samples, advise patients on recovery times and strategies, prescribe medications and give advice for home care.
Nursing Students
Nursing students will work hard to earn their degree or certification, and they will need to learn much of the same information as students in medical or pre-med programs. Drug classifications and interactions, anatomy, blood and body chemistry, disease symptoms and cures will all be covered in a nursing degree program, and students must have the dedication and willingness to study in order to learn it all. Nursing students must also believe that they are needed to help patients remain comfortable and positive, interested in healing themselves and their bodies.
