science & math degrees and programs

Science & Math Programs

At prestigious colleges around the country, science and math degree programs can be some of the most competitive for new students. Biology and chemistry classes are required for pre-med and for students majoring in human or plant processes. Physics, math and other science courses are more specialized at upper-division levels, taught for the students who will graduate with degrees in science and math. Most students in science or math degree programs will attend a school with strong departments in both, so as to maximize their opportunities for growth and education.

Science & Math Careers

Many students with degrees in biology, chemistry or physics will go on to teach high school or college courses, or help develop curricula or write textbooks. Sometimes an undergraduate degree is not sufficient for employment in math or science and students go on to earn graduate degrees. The fields of science and math are also heavily research-oriented and so graduate students may find work at universities or research facilities doing experiments with genetics, algorithms, space or aeronautics, or chemicals and weapons development.

Science & Math Students

Students who enter science or math programs at a graduate level should be very gifted in their chosen field. Positions are notoriously competitive and many times professors attain tenure after a number of years, securing their position as instructors or researchers. Natural aptitude with figures and calculations is a must in this field. Students with a passion for numbers, chemical formulas or a knack for cracking codes will most likely consider a college program in science or math.
